It came after Washington voiced opposition to a bill that criminalizes homosexuality in the country.

The Iraqi parliament passed the bill on Sunday.

The political council of Al-Nuajba in a statement denounced the US stance, saying the US interference in Iraq’s domestic affairs has reached a point where the US envoy brazenly threatens Iraq’s with economic sanctions.

The statement urged that instead of meddling in other’s affairs, Washington must stop its crackdown on university students protesting the support for the Israeli regime’s genocidal war on the Gaza Strip.

It said the US, which is a permanent member of the UN Security Council, must also respect the international community’s decisions against Israel, which is committing the most heinous crimes against the people of Gaza.

The statement added that Al-Nujaba fully support the decision by the Iraqi parliament, which is in accordance with the will of the Iraqi nation, thanking the lawmakers who voted for the bill.

It warned those members of parliament who might still have a positive view of the US government that through its policies, Washington seeks the collapse of societies, annihilation of families and confronting Islam’s principles and genuine Islamic culture.
